Mumbai, January 17: One man has been arrested in the house stabbing of actor Saif Ali Khan in the early hours yesterday.
The actor received six wounds, at least two of them deep, and one very close to his spinal cord. Since then, he has been operated upon at Lilavati Hospital and is reported to be recovering well.
The 54-year-old actor was with his family in his Bandra West quadriplex apartment apartment on the 11th floor in Sadguru Sharan building, when the intruder was discovered by the nanny of one of the children at 2 am. After she raised the alarm, the actor came out of his bedroom.
According to sources, he saw his maid having a verbal exchange with the intruder in the bedroom of one of his sons, that had already resulted in injuries to her. Upon trying to protect his staff and his family, the actor fought off a knife attack which left him seriously injured on his wrist, neck and side.
The intruder, who allegedly told the maid that he wanted Rs 1 crore, managed to flee the apartment but was captured on CCTV as he went downstairs. He is believed to have entered through the duct on the side of the building up to the sixth floor and then made his way up via the staircase. He left the same way.
Saif was immediately rushed to Lilavati Hospital by his son Ibrahim Ali khan and a caretaker in an auto rickshaw, and immediately underwent an emergency operation. According to the COO of Lilavati hospital, Dr Niraj Uttamani, “Saif sustained 6 injuries, 2 are minor, 2 intermediate and 2 deep injuries. One of the injuries is on the back which is close to the spine. A neurosurgeon is involved in the surgery.”

The neurosurgeon Dr Nitin Dange,had a word with the media where he said, “Saif Ali Khan was admitted to the hospital at 2 am with an alleged history of assault by some unknown person. He has sustained a major injury to the thoracic spinal cord due to a lodged knife in the spine. A surgery was performed to remove the knife and repair leaking spinal fluid. Two other deep wounds on his left hand and one other on his neck were repaired by the plastic surgery team. He is completely stable now. He is recovering well and out of danger.”
The DCP of Zone 9 Dixit Gedam has released a statement regarding the FIR registered. “The identity of one accused has been established. One of the accused used the stairs to access the building. Details of this accused have been obtained by the police. This accused was seen in the building last night. To investigate the matter, 10 teams have been formed. Our primary focus is to arrest the accused.”
